REVIEW: L'Oreal Paris Real Clay Charcoal, Eucalyptus & Algae Masks

It's not often that you can find amazing quality skincare for less than $50, but the L'Oreal Paris Real Clay Charcoal, Eucalyptus and Algae Masks have done. Just. That.

These three masks retail for $19.95 each and they all have their own individual purposes, such as detoxifying and brightening, purifying and mattifying, and exfoliating and smoothing. How's that for a skincare cocktail?

And with Christmas coming up, these are the perfect stocking stuffers or Kris Kringle gifts (or just a treat for yourself!). Curious to see how they work? Read on!

The babes at L'Oreal Paris were kind enough to send me the full set to try, but this blog post is honest and not sponsored.

Packaging

First up, the jars that these masks come in are luxe as. The masks are all housed in heavy-set glass jars, with a twistable snap-closure lid. The design is minimalist and the jars look so nice on your bathroom counter top that you won't want to keep them in the cupboard (and I wouldn't be surprised if you end up wanting all three to complete the set!).

Like, come on, for a $20 50mL mask (keep in mind that the cult-favourite Glam Glow is $27 for FIFTEEN GRAMS), that is pretty A+. These look just as good as high end skincare products from Clarins or Clinique for a fraction of the price (especially as there are always sales at Priceline and Target!). Impressed to the max. Give that product designer a high five.

How do I choose which one is for me?

I was lucky enough to receive the L'Oreal Paris Real Clay Masks as a press sample (thank you L'Oreal!), so I was also given this handy chart below to test what mask would suit my skin type.

If you have any blotting papers, you can try this test too; essentially, press your blotting paper to your skin for three seconds or so, and if it looks:

1. Patchy: You have oily skin and the Eucalyptus Mask will be best for you as it will help purify and mattify the skin (basically help clear up excess oil).

2. Spotty: You have normal skin and the Charcoal Mask will be best for you as it will help detoxify and brighten your skin (so draw out the gunk from your pores).

3. Dotty: You have dull skin and the Red Algae Mask will be best for you as it will help exfoliate and smooth the skin (so for all of you with dry skin, this will help even out your skin's texture).

Or, if you're like me, you're a mix of all three and have combination skin! We can use all three masks on the areas of the face that need them.

Let's try it on!

As I have combination skin - specifically, an oily T-Zone and dry cheeks - I decided to multi-mask and use all three of the Real Clay Masks to target each area. I used the eucalyptus mask on my forehead and nose where I tend to get shiny, the red algae mask on my cheeks as they often look red and dry, and the charcoal mask on my chin to help with congested pores.

After leaving them on for 10 minutes, you'll definitely feel them drying and working their magic. Try not to speak to anyone though -  my boyfriend often tries to make me laugh when I've got a face mask on, which is so cheeky!

Once the 10 minutes is up, I'll just use a warm, damp wash cloth to gently wipe away the masks to remove them. My skin always feels smooth, soft and really clean afterwards! As you can see below, my skin is a little red here, but this snap was taken literally right after taking off the masks. In another 10 minutes or so, the redness calms down (note: the redness is just part of my skin type, not an effect of the masks!) and my skin is left feeling super lovely and fresh.

You can get the L'Oreal Paris Real Clay Masks from major pharmacies, supermarkets and variety stores for $19.95 - if you're quick, I'm pretty sure Priceline has them on promotion for around $12 at the time of writing this blog post!

  1. I didn't use a mask yet. But much more interested to try them. I have a dry skin with pimples. tried different one earlier. But nothing worked well for me so far. Later this I tried activated charcoal benefits for my skin and hair. Feeling well so far. No pimples anymore. Happy to use this one.
