I love turning pre-loved fashion and to-be-loved fashion. Flicking through rack to rack, rummaging in boxes and boxes of previously owned threads is like fashion cat nip to me. Let me say right here how thankful I am to everyone who has ever donated, given away or sold their old things, because if they hadn't, I might never have got my style seeking mitts on them!
Plus, being a university student with a limited (more like close to non-existent) moolah, I love heading to a good market to pick up some bargain buys. Today I headed to the Melbourne Vintage Clearance Centre sale at Kingston City Hall for a big dose of vintage fashion.
With clothes, bags and shoes all between $5 - $30, my wallet was grinning at me and nodding enthusiastically whenever I picked up something pretty. Which is unusual, because it normally frowns at me and shouts, "LADY, SAVE YO FUNDS!"
Below are the snaps (and my purchases!) from event, and be sure to check out the Vintage Clearance Sale on Facebook for details on when it comes to town next.
$15 dresses. I nearly fainted! |
It was just like Boxing Day - people EVERYWHERE, clothes all over the place and you definitely had to keep a grip on your things in case you dropped it and someone else fell in love with it too! |
The most beautiful sequin tops, dresses and blazers - I wanted to sparkle so badly but none of it was in my size :( |
Leather boots all in tip top condition! You could literally talk a walk in someone else's shoes... |
I loved this dress, but after trying it on (in a corner behind a dress rack, mind you!) I realised that it was just that bit too big for me :( I left it behind, and I hope it now has a happy home. |
So what vintage goodies did I take home?
This dress is actually more purpley-blue in real life, and it goes in at the waist. I'm planning to snip off the sleeves, and wear it with combat boots and a skinny belt. |
And this is what it all looks like together!
(Not the dress, obviously!)
Sorry about the terrible lighting that weirdly made my olive legs super white!! |
For those wondering, my shorts are from Mink Pink. |
What's the best (prices and range) market that you've ever been to? I love suggestions, so please let me know in the comments below!

I like your haul. I have never been to a vintage market before. I haven't bought second hand clothes for a very long time. At markets, I normally look for second hand books. I thought you might enjoy this article by Rookie: http://rookiemag.com/2012/03/thrifting-the-master-class/ , I suppose it's not about anything that you wouldn't already know but it's nice seeing a kindred spirit.
ReplyDeleteHi Carlyn, thank you so much for the link to Rookie! It was a great read and it was so lovely of you to direct me to it :) I like buying secondhand books at markets too, there's a man who comes to my university with boxes of them and I always find a bargain there. Thank you for stopping by :) x
